Geographic Licensing Restrictions
Clips from the Feed Clips catalog are currently only licensed for playback in the United States and its territories. If someone using your app tries to add, create, or listen to a clip from the Feed Clips catalog outside of the US and its territories, they'll receive an error message in response.
How the Clips API Determines Location
The API enforces this restriction by IP address. How that IP address is determined depends on your integration:
- Direct connections. If your users' devices call the Feed Clips API directly, no extra configuration is needed. We use the user's IP to determine their country.
- Server-side proxies. If your backend makes API calls on behalf of your end users, forward the end user's real IP address on every request using the
X-FMG-Clips-End-User-IPheader.
If you supply X-FMG-Clips-End-User-IP, it must be a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address. An invalid value causes the request to be rejected outright (400) rather than evaluated for geo-blocking.
What a Blocked Request Looks Like
A request blocked for geographic reasons returns an HTTP 403 response with a failureCode of GEOGRAPHICALLY_BLOCKED. Because 403 is also returned for authentication problems (a missing, invalid, or expired token), check the failureCode value itself rather than the status code alone to confirm a request was specifically geo-blocked. See The Response and Error Model for how to handle failureCode generally, and the FailureCode schema for the full list of codes.
